On this occasion, David Khrikuli, finalist in the latest edition of the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition.
Born in Georgia in 2001, pianist David Khrikuli is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising artists of his generation. He studies with Stanislav Ioudenitch at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, where he previously trained with Galina Eguiazarova. He currently holds the Fundación Banco Santander Piano Chair and has received scholarships from the Jaime Castellanos and Albéniz Foundations. In 2022, he received the Diploma for the Most Outstanding Student in his chair from Her Majesty Queen Sofía.
Khrikuli was a finalist in the 2025 Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition, where his performances captured the attention of both the jury and the audience, garnering recognition that transcended the final results. A laureate of numerous international competitions, he won First Prize at the 2024 Cantù International Piano and Orchestra Competition (Italy), as well as First Prize and the Audience Award at the Vigo International Piano Competition (Spain). His previous distinctions include First Prize and the Special Prize at the Aarhus International Piano Competition (Denmark), First Prize at the Tbilisi National Chopin Competition (Georgia), and awards at the “Nutcracker” International TV Contest (Russia), Astana Piano Passion (Kazakhstan), and the Arthur Rubinstein International Youth Piano Competition (China).
Khrikuli began his piano studies at the age of eight at the Zakaria Paliashvili Central Music School for Gifted Children in Tbilisi, later continuing his training with Revaz Tavadze. He has participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Arie Vardi, Nelson Freire, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Robert Levin, and András Schiff, among others.
He has performed as a soloist with the Georgia Philharmonic, the Israel Camerata and Philharmonic, and the Moscow Philharmonic, in addition to giving recitals and chamber music concerts in various European countries.
Currently, Khrikuli is on tour in Poland, performing in Toruń, Krakow, and Poznań, and will appear with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, and the Krakow Philharmonic. He will also perform at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and return to Mallorca, in addition to making his debut in Berlin.
