Madrid, Friday, June 24, 2022– Her Majesty Queen Sofía will preside over an extraordinary concert of the IX Chamber Music Cycle in the World Heritage Cities on Friday, July 1, in the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca, which will tour unique spaces in the 15 Spanish cities with the UNESCO seal in autumn. Conducted by Andrés Salado, the concert of the Freixenet Chamber Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School of Music, will be presided over by Queen Sofía and will be attended by the 15 mayors of the World Heritage Cities, who the following day will hold their general assembly in Salamanca.
The president of the Group and mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, stressed that “for us it is an honor to have Her Majesty Queen Sofía once again at this extraordinary concert in the Plaza Mayor of our city, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful monumental spaces in Spain, where the Queen and all the public will be able to enjoy a unique experience”
The president thanked Doña Sofía “for her constant support in the eight previous editions of this Cycle, with which we bring excellent chamber music concerts to our 15 cities, performed by the young talents who are trained at the Reina Sofía School of Music, considered one of the best music teaching centers in the world. Thousands of people have enjoyed these top-level concerts in churches, palaces, museums, monasteries and historic spaces in recent years.”
For her part, the Founding President of the Reina Sofía School of Music, Paloma O’Shea, referred to the reason for this cycle: “To make chamber and orchestral music resonate in the unique places, full of history, that the cities of the Group have. Our music and its spaces enhance each other and enrich the public’s experience. We have verified this repeatedly in recent years and we have every intention of continuing to verify it in the future.”
The Concert of the Freixenet Orchestra of the Reina Sofía School of Music will begin at 9:15 p.m., under the direction of Andrés Salado and with Tomás Alegre on the piano, who will perform the concerto for piano and orchestra no. 17 in G major K 453 by Wolfang A. Mozart and Symphony no. 5 in B flat major D 485 by Franz Schubert. It will be broadcast live on La 2 de TVE.
