Madrid, September 16, 2024. Fundación Baluarte and the Navarra Symphony Orchestra/Navarroako Orkestra Sinfonikoa (OSN/NOS) have signed a collaboration agreement with the Reina Sofía School of Music. The agreement has been signed by Rubén Jauquicoa, managing director of the Foundation and the Orchestra, and Paloma O’Shea, founding president of the School. Òscar Colomina, dean of the School, was also present.

Thanks to the agreement, students from the center will be able to carry out internships in the musical group, framed within the different academic programs of the School. Fundación Baluarte and the OSN/NOS join other national and international institutions in the field of music that will participate from the beginning in the new “Zubin Mehta” Professorship of Conducting of the Reina Sofía School.

The first practice session for the students of the Professorship will consist of a rehearsal session with the OSN/NOS and its principal professor, Nicolás Pasquet. The Orchestra will select the students who will later participate in different concerts and activities. The presence of students and faculty in these practices is possible thanks to the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation.

Improving training and employability

Paloma O’Shea has stated, “I am very grateful to Fundación Baluarte and the Navarra Symphony Orchestra for this collaboration, thanks to which our Orchestra Conducting students will be able to work with a highly prestigious professional orchestra. For the artistic development of our young musicians, it is an exceptional opportunity that I am convinced will be very beneficial for their training.”

For his part, Rubén Jauquicoa has expressed that this agreement adds to the collaborations that Fundación Baluarte and the official orchestra of the Foral Community maintain with educational entities of Navarra and other autonomous communities and that its purpose is “to guarantee the future of the symphonic music sector through better training and employability of the new generations of professionals,” he stated.
