The Arete Quartet is a highly renowned Korean string quartet, formed in September 2019. The ensemble is comprised of violinists Jeon Chae-ann and Kim Dong-hwi, violist Jang Yoon-sun, and cellist Park Seong-hyeon. They made their debut at Kumho Art Hall in September 2020, after unanimously passing the audition for the Kumho Art Hall Young Chamber Concert the previous year. Their performances have received wide acclaim, including an appearance on Korea’s largest broadcaster, KBS.

The quartet has achieved significant international success. In 2021, they won First Prize at the prestigious Prague Spring International Music Competition, in addition to receiving several special prizes. They have also earned other international distinctions, such as at the Mozart International Competition in Salzburg in 2023 and the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition in 2024.

At present, the Arete Quartet studies at the International Institute of Chamber Music in Madrid and continues to give performances and collaborate internationally. They are mentored by leading musicians, including Christoph Poppen and Jaeyoung Kim of the Novus Quartet.
