Established at the Reina Sofía School of Music in 2006, the Óscar Esplá de Asisa Quartet made its debut at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in March 2007.
The quartet has performed at numerous venues, including the Teatro Principal in Burgos, Casa de Salinas in Seville, Teatro Principal in Alicante, Casino Mercantil in Zaragoza, L’Auditori in Barcelona, Victoria Eugenia Theatre in San Sebastián, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Telefónica’s District C, Teatro Calderón in Madrid, San Gregorio Chapel in Valladolid, Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows in Ibiza, Lázaro Galdiano Foundation in Madrid, Teatro Real in Madrid, and Martinu Hall in Prague (Czech Republic). Furthermore, it has participated in the AIE en Ruta Clásicos cycles (performing in Palencia, the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Lugo, and the Condestable Palace in Pamplona) and the Chamber Music in World Heritage Cities series (Alcalá de Henares and Ávila). In 2012, the ensemble recorded a CD for Asisa featuring works by Dvořák, Brahms, and Piazzolla. With its current members, the quartet won the 2019 EMCY Prize, awarded by the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) as part of the 94th Juventudes Musicales de España Competition, and received the Mention for the most outstanding group in the string quartet category in both 2019 and 2020.
The Óscar Esplá de Asisa Quartet studies under the tutelage of Heime Müller and is currently composed of Cecilia Novella and David Martínez (violins), Semin Yim (viola), and Célia Garetti (cello).
