Considered one of the most exciting chamber ensembles of its generation, the Paddington Trio has been recognised in international competitions and live performances for its fresh interpretations and exuberant energy. Like the famous bear, Finnish violinist Tuulia Hero, Irish cellist Patrick Moriarty and American pianist Stephanie Tang have made London their home and have emerged as a distinctive and enduring ensemble. The trio is celebrated for its close and energetic communication, its insightful and imaginative programming, as well as its highly refined ensemble playing. The trio’s overarching mission is to bridge the gap between new listeners and serious classical music enthusiasts, inviting everyone into its “living room” of musical discovery and shared love of chamber music.

Having begun their first adventure together at Paddington Station in 2020, a year after meeting, the trio won First Prize at the 70th Royal Over-Seas League Competition for Strings and Piano Ensembles. Since then, they have won First Prize at the International Triomphe de l’Art 2024, the Storioni Concours 2024, the The Parkhouse Award 2023 at Wigmore Hall, the Audience Prize at the 2023 Schiermonnikoog Festival and NEW FORMATS Project Award 2022. They are currently generously supported by the City Music Foundation, the Kirckman Concert Society and GBZ Management. In the summer of 2023, the trio completed an Artist-in-Residence programme at their alma mater, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and continues to teach and inspire young ensembles through the Chamber Residency Programme at the Royal Northern College of Music during the 2024/2025 academic year.

In March 2023, the Paddington Trio made its solo debut performing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Jan Söderblom and the Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra in Finland. They have performed in leading venues and series, including Wigmore Hall, LSO St. Luke’s, the Oxford Coffee Concerts, St. George’s Bristol and BBC Total Immersion. Their most recent debuts have taken them to TivoliVredenburg and the Schiermonnikoog Festival in the Netherlands, the Edinburgh Fringe, the Buxton and Brighton International Festivals, and Lake District Summer Music. The trio has appeared on YLE (Finland) radio and on BBC Radio 3 In Tune.

Tuulia, Patrick and Stephanie have had the privilege of working closely with internationally renowned musicians such as Eberhard Feltz, Marc Danel, Gary Hoffman, Levon Chilingirian, Robert Levin, Johannes Meissl, David Dolan and members of the Ébène, Takács, Endellion and Meta4 quartets. In 2023, they joined the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) and also receive mentoring from ChamberStudio and the Netherlands String Quartet Academy. The trio studied under Thomas Adès at the 50th anniversary masterclasses of IMS Prussia Cove.

Tuulia plays a 1707 Stradivarius violin, generously loaned by the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
