Gustavo Dudamel Visits the Reina Sofía School of Music

Madrid, October 2, 2019.- A week after the start of classes and rehearsals for this new 2019/2020 academic year, the young musicians of the Reina Sofía School of Music have been able to enjoy a long-awaited and enriching visit with Gustavo Dudamel, one of the most outstanding orchestra conductors of our time.

His exceptional artistic and human quality has allowed the students to learn, from the protagonist himself, about the beginnings of a musician who has become the conductor of the best orchestras in the world and who continues to progress, both in musical learning and in vital transformation.

“The act of making music is not limited to a technical aspect. An artistic career is a great experiment and there is always a sharing. We transform lives through music, and music is not only an aesthetic, artistic, or entertainment event. Art goes further. It is a process of transformation between the audience and the performer.”

Dudamel’s responsibility and social commitment perfectly embodies the values that also define the School: “to help the development of talented young people and bring music closer to society.”

“We must transform the very vision and education of art. It must be understood as a philosophy of life. Your talent as musicians is expandable, and that is why music has a great power of transformation, in this case, human-social.”

Under a vision of the future, Dudamel expressed the willingness of both parties to build solid links to continue expanding artistic talent – “connect the School with projects” – and praised the work of Paloma O’Shea in this institution that will soon celebrate 30 years “transforming life through music, through art.”
