Javier Camarena Visits the Reina Sofía School of Music

Madrid, December 5, 2019.- Javier Camarena, considered one of the best tenors in the world, visited the Reina Sofía School of Music in an afternoon of learning for the young musicians of the “Alfredo Krauss” Singing Chair Fundación Ramón Areces.

“It has been a great honor and a real pleasure to visit the School, being able to share and transmit my experience with its students. At the same time, I have learned with them because this activity involves a process of constant feedback,” said Javier Camarena.

The Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Olga Syniakova began the masterclass with a repertoire of Donizetti From the opera “Maria Stuarda”: the aria of Elisabetta: “Si, vuol di Francia…” and the cabaletta: “Giorno atroce di vendetta”.

Next, the Mexican baritone Jorge Eleázar took to the stage of the Sony Auditorium performing Rossini From the opera “La Cenerentola”: the Aria of Dandini: “Come un’ape ne’ giorni ďaprile”.

Jorge Puerta, a Venezuelan tenor, was the third student to lend his voice to Puccini From the opera “Tosca”: the Aria of Cavaradossi: “Recondita armonía”.

“The main advice I would give to young people is that an artistic career is a career of resistance and not of speed, with values such as tenacity, perseverance and discipline being essential,” reflected the Mexican tenor. “In this society accustomed to immediacy, not only vocal ability and talent are worthwhile. You need maturity in many ways because singing is a projection of your being, part of a development,” added Camarena.

The more than two hours of intense masterclass were completed with the performances of the Chilean soprano Annya Pinto with the Aria of Adina: “Prendi per me sei libero” from the opera “L’elisir d’amore” by Donizetti; and the Spanish baritone Gabriel Alonso giving voice to the aria of Riccardo: “Or dove fuggo mai” from Bellini’s opera “I puritani”.

The exceptional artistic and human quality of Javier Camarena has allowed the students to learn alongside one of the best tenors in the world, who will be at the Teatro Real until the 15th playing the main role of Gualtiero in the opera ‘Il Pirata’ by Vincenzo Bellini. Subsequently, he will offer a tour of recitals throughout Spain that will conclude on February 7 at the National Auditorium in Madrid.

Camarena shook the operatic universe in 2014 by being the third singer to offer an encore at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York in the last 70 years, a feat that he would repeat months later at the Teatro Real. Since then, he has become a great star on the international lyrical scene.
