Music for Museum Day at the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation by the Reina Sofía School

Madrid, May 12, 2022.- On the occasion of International Museum Day, which is celebrated next Wednesday, May 18, and within the context of the exhibition of 19th-century Spanish painting, the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation presents a series of micro-concerts with a selection of pieces by Johannes Brahms and Gioachino Rossini that will be performed by students of the Reina Sofía School of Music. As a result of a collaboration agreement between both institutions, the day will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Room 10 of the Foundation with a string ensemble that will offer three 17-minute performances each hour (11:00, 12:00, 13:00). The Contrapunto BBDO Quartet, composed of violinists Jimena Rojas and Victoria Warzyca, violist João Franzoso and cellist Anastasia Averianova, will play the movements I. Allegro and II. Romanze. Poco adagio, both from String Quartet in C minor op 51 no. 1 by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).

In the afternoon, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., there will be 4 performances of seven minutes every half hour with works by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868). The bassoonists Ángela Martínez Martínez and Javier Sanz Pascual will be in charge of making the cavatina Ecco, ridente in cielo shine and the aria Largo al factotum that are part of The Barber of Seville (with an arrangement for two bassoons by F. R. Gebauer).

Access, which will be made with the general admission ticket to visit the Foundation, will be free until full capacity is reached. Tickets can be booked in advance through the website or collected at the Foundation’s ticket office on the day of the event.

Sponsorship Project for musical training

The María Cristina Masaveu Foundation and the Reina Sofía School of Music have been collaborating for more than twelve years in a stable sponsorship project for musical training.

Thus, since 2009 the Foundation has participated in the School’s Training Program with the Scholarship Sponsorship, granting tuition scholarships annually for students of different instrument classes. In addition, the Foundation has consolidated its support through a program for the acquisition of personalized seats in its Sony Auditorium and this support has been implemented through training programs and concerts given by the school.

The Foundation launches three new thematic guided tours

As of May 17, the Foundation will have three new types of thematic tours for the exhibition Masaveu Collection. 19th-century Spanish Painting. From Goya to Modernism, which are added to the programming of more than 40 free weekly visits that the FMCMP carries out around its exhibitions.

With an approximate duration of 45 minutes, the tour The image of women in the Masaveu Collection of 19th-century Spanish painting will analyze the different ways of representing women in the works of artists such as Eduardo Rosales, Sotomayor, Sorolla, Julio Romero de Torres, Zuloaga or Anglada Camarasa, among others.

A fundamental nucleus of the Masaveu Collection is made up of the work of Joaquín Sorolla. Through the analysis of the 25 works that are included in the exhibition, this guided tour will delve into the career of one of the main masters of the history of Spanish art.

The last type of visit revolves around postmodern painting, one of the main sections of the exhibition. This visit, with an approximate duration of 20 minutes, will allow you to get to know the work of authors such as Ramón Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquín Mir, Joaquín Sunyer, Isidro Nonell and Hermen Anglada-Camarasa.
