Christoph Poppen: Bloch - Baal Shem - II. Nigun

BLOCH, Ernest

Baal Shem (Master of the Name) for violin and piano

II. Nigun

Christoph Poppen, guest professor

Elina Sitnikava, student

Vadim Gladkov, accompanying pianist

The character of this piece is like a prayer. In general, the student needs to play with more bow contact and speed. In a certain passage containing a great leap, Professor Poppen revises the string change and the finger position to achieve better sound and more strength. Technically, the student has to use more pressure in the middle of the bow towards the fingerboard. In order to get better sound, the bow has to be parallel to the bridge.
The professor adds some explanations about articulation in legato.
