Details about the position

The Reina Sofía School of Music is opening a call for applications for the position of accompaniment pianist professor for the Telefónica Violin Department. The work of the department’s accompaniment pianist is coordinated and combined with the teaching work of the main violin professor and their adjunct professor, and focuses not only on musical assistance to the tenured professor’s classes, but also on teaching instrumental repertoire with piano accompaniment, in any of the official courses (degree in higher artistic music education, master’s degree in musical performance) or non-official courses (diploma in performance, preliminary courses to the degree or master’s degree).

  • Remuneration: Hourly, depending on profile.

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications: Higher Degree / Degree in Spanish Interpretation or equivalent in Spain.
  • Experience: Experience as a collaborative pianist and prior knowledge of the specific violin repertoire will be valued: Concertos, Sonatas, virtuoso repertoire and chamber music.
  • Languages: Intermediate level of spoken and written English and Spanish. Knowledge of German will be valued.

Main functions

The Telefónica Violin Department consists of 10 students for the 2025-26 academic year. The responsibilities of the accompaniment pianist professor mainly include:

  • Offering one weekly hour of individual joint work with each student of the department, for each academic year between September and June.
  • Being fully available during the visiting periods of the main professor, for the academic year between September and June.
  • Being fully available during the visiting periods of international artists for master classes (1 or 2 days per visit, dates to be determined).
  • Accompanying the students of the department in the teaching concerts (one quarterly concert) in the SONY Auditorium of the School.
  • Accompanying the students of the department in their end-of-degree recitals or end-of-master’s concerts, if any, in May-June.
  • Availability to attend concerts and activities outside of school hours, both inside and outside the School’s headquarters.
  • Accompanying candidates in the annual auditions of the department (in person), normally on a date to be determined in the month of March.
  • Promote the self-critical sense of each student and their initiative in individual and personalized study, from the detailed analysis of the score.
  • Providing help and guidance to students in the appropriate stylistic and sound conception of each work.
  • Providing musical support on the piano for the artistic and technical indications of the main professor.
  • Participating in the department’s faculty meetings (one quarterly faculty meeting).
  • Presenting constructive written assessments and evaluations on the educational progress of the students (quarterly).
  • Submitting grades in accordance with the requirements of the teaching guides and proposals of the relevant study program (annually).
  • Be qualified to sign official grade reports (annually).
