Details about the position
The Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía is opening a call for the position of English Horn Teacher for the Oboe Chair Fundación Damm of the institution, whose principal professor is Lucas Macías. The work of the chair’s English horn teacher is coordinated and combined with the duties of the rest of the chair’s faculty: assistant professor and the official chair pianist, and the class schedule is expected to cover the entire academic period of the school year, distributing classes as one-hour individual sessions per student, with a frequency to be determined in advance with the head of studies and the principal professor of the chair.
Job Requirements
The Oboe Chair Fundación Damm consists of 5 students for the 2026-27 academic year. The responsibilities of the English horn teacher include, primarily:

- Approximately 90 hours per year of collaboration in class sessions, expandable according to need and prior written agreement with the School.
- Provide one hour of joint work with each student of the chair, within the English Horn course module, with a frequency to be determined in advance with the head of studies and the principal professor of the chair.
- Availability to attend concerts and activities outside of school hours, both inside and outside the School’s headquarters.
- Availability to serve on examination boards for orchestral repertoire (“mock tests”), one held in January and another in April.
- Availability to serve on audition boards for admission to the chair, in March.
- Work within the context of a high-performance center on technique, sound, and musical ability integrated into the English horn repertoire.
- Promote the self-critical sense of each student and their initiative in individual and personalized study, from the detailed analysis of the score.
- Provide assistance and guidance to students in the appropriate stylistic conception of each work.
- Participating in the department’s faculty meetings (one quarterly faculty meeting).
- Submit constructive comments and student evaluations (quarterly).
- Be qualified to sign official grade reports (annually).
Main functions
- Qualifications: Higher Degree / Degree in Spanish Interpretation or equivalent in Spain.
- Experience: Experience as a teacher in high-performance centers will be valued, particularly for advanced levels of artistic education or master’s programs.
- Languages: Intermediate level of spoken and written English and Spanish.
Professional collaboration:
- Type of contract: The service will be provided under a self-employment regime.
- Remuneration: From €60 gross/hour, depending on the profile and experience provided.
