Chiara Tonelli has been the solo flautist of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since the group’s foundation, and is also a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
For ten years, Chiara was the first solo flautist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (under the baton of principal conductor Zubin Mehta) and, previously, of the Teatro Regio in Turin. In addition, she has performed with orchestras such as the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Mozart Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Camerata Salzburg, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Les Musiciens du Louvre.
As a soloist, she has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Haydn Orchestra, the Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Bolzano String Academy, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Bergamo and Brescia Chamber Orchestra, the Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic, the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Ankara.
Chiara has been a guest performer at chamber music festivals such as the Spannungen Festival in Heimbach, the Storioni Festival in Eindhoven and the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in Virginia.
Since 2005 she has been teaching her own class at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence.
