Alois Posch was born in Styria, Austria, in 1959. He began his musical activity at the age of 10 with the piano and violin. At the age of 14 he began his double bass lessons and only a year later accepted the offer of a place as an extraordinary student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz.
During his studies with Professor Johannes Auersperg, Alois Posch recorded his first solo sessions for the radio and won several prizes in competitions. In 1977 he participated in the auditions for the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, obtaining a contract with the Vienna State Opera at the young age of 18. A year later he graduated with honors from the University of Graz.From 1983 to 2008 Alois Posch was the principal double bassist of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In the late 1980s he obtained a four-year contract as a visiting professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts of the Mozarteum in Salzburg.In 1993 he was appointed professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he has since taught double bass.Since the beginning of his musical career, Alois Posch has participated in prestigious international festivals. Numerous CD recordings document his frequent collaborations with several of the most renowned musicians of the last decades.
