Ana Llorens Martín holds a degree in History and Sciences of Music from the Complutense University of Madrid (National Award for Academic Excellence 2011) and a PhD in Music from the University of Cambridge (2018). She is currently an Assistant Professor in Music Theory and Analysis in the Department of Musicology at the Complutense University of Madrid.

With a clear focus on musical analysis, during her doctorate she employed novel computational techniques for the analysis of musical recordings, with the purpose of expanding the theoretical conception of musical structure. Since September 2022, she has been the sole Principal Investigator of the R project “The Sound of Pau Casals”, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Thanks to this, she has signed a stable collaboration agreement with the Pau Casals Foundation.
Both her postdoctoral experience in the United Kingdom, as well as her previous studies in the United States, have allowed Llorens to fully embrace Anglo-Saxon academic practices. This has allowed her to be part of the team of editors of the volume The Cambridge History of Music in Spain, which will be published by Cambridge University Press. Her international profile is also reflected in her participation in prestigious conferences, such as AMS (2020), EuroMAC (2020) and IMS (2022).

Especially important are her publications in Music Theory Online (Q1), Empirical Musicology Review (Q1), Brepols, Routledge and Cambridge University Press. Since the beginning of her postdoctoral stage, she has supervised 11 Master’s Thesis Projects and is directing or co-directing 7 doctoral theses. She has also been an evaluator for prestigious journals such as Musicae Scientiae (Q1), Transactions of the International Society for Music Information Retrieval, Music Theory and Analysis, Musurgia, Revista de Musicología and Anuario Musical. Her outstanding career has been recognised with the “Julián Marías” 2024 Research in Humanities award from the Community of Madrid.

From the 2025-2026 academic year, she is a professor of Musical Interpretation and Historiography of Musical Interpretation at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.
