Born in Alzira, Spain, in 1977, Arnau Bataller has worked with prestigious Spanish directors such as Fernando León de Aranoa, Jaume Balagueró, Cesc Gay, Pau Freixas, and María Ripoll, among others. His latest works include the Telecinco blockbuster “Way Down,” starring Freddie Highmore and Liam Cunningham; the drama “A Perfect Day,” starring Benicio del Toro and Tim Robbins; and the historical drama “The Chosen,” a Spanish-Mexican film starring Hannah Murray, Henry Goodman, and Julian Sands.
In the field of concert music, his pieces have been performed in the USA, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Colombia, and Spain. He has written works for orchestra, chamber music, and symphonic band.
In 2019, he won the II Valencian Audiovisual Industry Award for his music for the comedy “Vivir dos veces.” He has been nominated three times for the Gaudí Awards. In 2012, he won the International Film Music Critic Association Awards for Best Music for TV for his historical television miniseries “Ermessenda,” competing against music from the TV series “Game of Thrones,” “Downton Abbey,” “Doctor Who,” and “Sherlock Holmes.” In 2011, he won the Spanish Film Music Critics Award for Best Spanish Composer. He was also nominated as Breakout Composer of the Year by the International Film Music Critics Association.
He graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (USC), where he obtained his Bachelors of Music in Composition, also completing the prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and TV program, recording more than 10 times at Paramount Studios. He holds a professional violin degree.
Bataller is also a professor of composition for audiovisual media at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (EsMUC) and the Escola Superior de Cine i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC).
