Born in Landsberg am Lech in 1965, he studied with Professor Günther Passin at the Munich Academy of Music. He graduated with a Postgraduate Degree in Oboe Performance and Chamber Music. Christoph Hartmann has won several awards in international competitions in Toulon, Geneva, and Tokyo.

His first engagement with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra was soon followed by his joining the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992. He currently tours regularly as a soloist throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. Driven by his strong passion for chamber music, he founded the “Landsberger Sommermusiken” Festival with fellow musicians, which led to the creation of the “Ensemble Berlin,” an ensemble that performs extensive national and international tours.

He has performed at various international festivals, including the Würzburg Mozartfest, the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival, and the Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden in Røros (Norway). For several years, Christoph Hartmann served as artistic director of the Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden in Norway.

Christoph Hartmann is a professor and a board member of the Norwegian chamber academy “KonstKnekt”.

Together with colleagues from his orchestra, he founded PoQ, the “Philharmonic Oboe Quartet”.

Since 2022, Christoph Hartmann has been a professor at the Freiburg University of Music.

He plays an oboe made by the Italian luthier Sergio Bulgheroni.
