Described by The Times as “intense, profound, and sublime,” cellist Christoph Richter performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician alongside artists such as András Schiff, Miriam Fried, Isabelle Faust, Menahem Pressler, and Midori, among others. He has participated in prestigious festivals such as Salzburg and Marlboro (USA) and has collaborated with composers such as Heinz Holliger and György Kurtág. After studying with André Navarra and Pierre Fournier, he won prizes in international competitions, which led him to perform as a soloist with major orchestras. His profound interest in contemporary music has led him to work with composers such as Penderecki, Henze, Lachenmann, Holliger, Reimann, and Widmann. In London, he has performed the complete works for cello by Brahms and Webern (2008), Beethoven (2009 and 2015), Mendelssohn (2010), Bach (2013), and Schumann (2017). His discography includes works by Schumann and Holliger for ECM, Klengel’s concertos for cpo, Mozart’s Divertimento for Naxos, and Brahms’ Sextet op. 36 for Harmonia Mundi, which received the Diapason d’Or in 2014.

Christoph Richter is a professor of cello at the Folkwang University of Essen (Germany) and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, in addition to teaching at the European Chamber Music Academy and ChamberStudio (London). He also offers masterclasses in Europe and the United States and is frequently invited as a jury member in international competitions in cities such as London, Vienna, Weimar, and Trondheim.
