She studied piano and harpsichord at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and took several specialization courses in the construction of historical instruments, organology, and musical iconography in France and Belgium. She holds a doctorate in History and Sciences of Music from the University of Valladolid with the thesis “The production and trade of musical instruments in Madrid, 1770-1870”. She also holds a degree in Law from the University of Deusto.
Her writings and research projects are oriented towards the study and dissemination of musical heritage, especially in the branches of organology and musical iconography, as well as the methodology of musicological research. She has participated in various national and international courses and congresses on topics related to these subjects.
She has been a curator and collaborator in national and international exhibitions related to musical heritage. Her writings include topics related to historical harps in Spain, antique keyboard instruments, or the field of violin making with special emphasis on the history of the violin makers’ guild and historical instruments (such as the Stradivari collection preserved in the National Heritage). She is the author of the catalogs “Musical instruments in Spanish collections”.
From 2008 to 2012 she was president of the Society of the vihuela, lute and guitar, and from 2009 to 2012 she was a Member of the Joint Committee of the RIdIM (International Repertory of Musical Iconography) by the International Society of Musicology. She is vice president of the Instrumenta Association for the study and dissemination of musical instruments and their collections in Spain.Since 2005 she has directed the “UCM Musical Iconography” research group and, since 2009, she has been the principal investigator of successive R projects on Musical Iconography and Organology. She currently also teaches in the Department of Musicology of the Complutense University of Madrid and in the Department of Organological, Historical and Acoustic Foundations of the Instrument of the Reina Sofía School of Music.
