Since his time as a young student at the Cologne Academy of Music, where he specialized in school music and bassoon, he was a member of the Young Philharmonic Orchestra and the Young National Orchestra of Germany.

After finishing his studies, he moved from Cologne to the Hanover University of Music and Drama (Hochschule für Musik und Theater) where he continued his bassoon studies with Klaus Thunemann. Just two years later, he became principal bassoonist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and also passed the state examination in the specialty of school music.

In addition to his orchestral work, Eberhard Marschall has been active as a chamber musician from the outset, for example with the Linos-Ensemble and the Deutschen Bläsersolisten, with whom he undertook extensive concert tours throughout Europe and also to China and Japan.

In his role as a soloist, he has gained an international reputation. Between 1985 and 2019 he held the position of principal bassoonist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1989 he has also been a professor at the Munich Academy of Music. Eberhard Marschall has presented numerous works on CD, such as the recordings with the Linos-Ensemble or the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Colin Davies.
