Eric Reed is a horn player in the American Brass Quintet and co-principal horn of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He also works at the Juilliard School, New York University, and The Mannes School of Music, which belongs to The New School. He is also a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, has performed regularly with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and has been a member of the Canadian Brass, the Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, and the New Jersey, Oregon, New World, and Harrisburg symphony orchestras.
Eric has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the International Contemporary Ensemble, and as guest principal horn with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the United States Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, and at the American Ballet Theater. He is a member of Brassology, a brass octet formed in 2023 that merges different genres, and Ensemble Échappé, a sinfonietta dedicated to 21st-century music. His most recent world premieres include chamber works by Jennifer Higdon, John Zorn, Nina C. Young, Eric Ewazen, William Bolcom, David Biedenbender, Philip Lasser, Kenneth Fuchs, and Timo Andres.
Reed has participated in festivals such as Aspen, Bridgehampton, Emerald City, North Shore, Crescent City, Cape Cod, Steamboat Springs, and Mostly Mozart. Eric holds degrees from Rice University and the Juilliard School. He resides in the Bronx with his wife, violinist Sarah Zun, and their children Oliver and Elliot.
