Isabel Charisius is one of the best viola players and chamber musicians of her generation. As a member of the prestigious Alban Berg Quartet, in addition to her solo performances and engagements as a soloist with various leading orchestras, Isabel Charisius has performed regularly in the most prestigious halls in Europe, America, and Asia. Isabel Charisius is often invited to play the viola and violin with distinguished ensembles and great soloists at international festivals and concert halls.
In addition to her intense artistic activity, Isabel Charisius has dedicated many years to training new generations of musicians. She is an internationally recognized viola and chamber music teacher. Her prolific teaching activity includes a professorship at the Musikhochschule Köln (2005-2012), the Musikhochschule Lucerne (since 2006), as well as a wide range of masterclasses at some of the most prestigious academies and institutions. Isabel Charisius’ students are often among the award winners in international competitions. In addition, many of them are part of the world’s leading ensembles and orchestras. Some of the groups formed by Isabel Charisius are the Heath, Signum, Schuman, Navarram, Amaryllis, and Belenus string quartets, as well as the Atos and Morgenstern piano trios.
Isabel Charisius plays an extraordinary “ABQ” viola by Laurentius Sotioni (1790), a viola by Peter Greiner (1999), and a special violin by Joannes Udalricus Eberle (1953).
