Principal Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2022 and Music Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 2019, Jaime Martín has been Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland (2019-2024), Principal Guest Conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir (2022-2024) and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra (2013-2022). The 2024/25 season marked the beginning of his role as Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW).
After a long career as a renowned flautist of great prestige, Jaime focused fully on conducting in 2013, and has quickly become one of the most sought-after conductors internationally.
Highlights of the 2024/25 season include his acclaimed appearance and debut at the BBC Proms with the BBC NOW. He also led the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in an 11-day Beethoven Festival conducting all nine symphonies. Jaime has also conducted orchestras in Spain, the United Kingdom and Australia.In the 2025/26 season, Jaime Martin embarks on a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which will begin at the Edinburgh International Festival and conclude at the BBC Proms, becoming the ensemble’s first full international tour since 2019. He will also conduct major orchestras in Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia.
His extensive discography includes recordings with the Gävle Symphony, the Orquestra de Cadaqués, the Barcelona Symphony, the London Philharmonic and recent releases on the Melbourne Symphony label.
Martín is Artistic Advisor and former Artistic Director of the Santander Festival, as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Music in London, where he was a professor of flute.
