Since his debut at the “Théâtre des Champs Elysées” in Paris, and the awards obtained in the international competitions of Jaén, Épinal and Santander, among others, he is considered one of the most important performers in Spain, both by the public and by critics. This has been corroborated by the awarding of the National Music Prize, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1998.His versatility is evident in the repertoire of his programs, in which he has offered his always very personal versions of composers from all eras, from the Baroque to the present day. This is reflected in his discographic recordings, which range from Blasco de Nebra to Falla, Mompou or Guinjoan, from Bach to Prokofiev, with a marked vocation in his latest recordings to break stylistic boundaries and academic clichés: see his recent CDs made with the Eudora label.
Despite affirming his introspective character and his preference for the more intimate world of recital and chamber music, the reality is that he has played with a countless number of orchestras and conductors from all over the world, always with great success and very good reviews.
In parallel with his career as a concert performer, Colom has sought to find time for pedagogy, which he recognizes as an increasingly strong inclination.
In his words:
“Making music is a great privilege and I thank all the people who attend my concerts for sharing what for me is a daily miracle.” J.C.
