Karla Martínez – Havana, Cuba – 1988
Karla Martínez, a Cuban pianist who graduated with a Gold Diploma from the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba, completed a Master’s Degree in Musical Performance at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, where she studied with Dimitri Bashkirov and Denis Lossev, and completed her training at the Liceu in Barcelona with Tensy Krismant.
She has been awarded prizes in competitions such as the María Clara Cullell (Costa Rica), Juventudes Musicales de Vilafranca del Penedés, Piano Cicle de Primavera (Barcelona), Amadeo Roldán and Musicalia (Cuba), among others. She has given concerts in Cuba, America and Europe, and has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and the Symphony Orchestra of Oriente. She has collaborated with figures such as L. Brouwer, B. Brönnimann, R. Zollman and J. A. Méndez.
She currently combines her artistic career with teaching at the Royal Higher Conservatory of Music of Madrid. She has also been a professor at the Katarina Gurska Higher Center and at the Higher Conservatory of Castilla y León. In 2022 she released her first album, Cuba piano contemporáneo, with the Calle440 label.
