Kinga Wojdalska is the first Polish winner at the prestigious Primrose International Viola Competition in the United States. In addition to receiving the distinguished second prize, she was also awarded for her brilliant performance of her own transcription of Grażyna Bacewicz’s Polish Caprice. Wojdalska is a violist, and performs both as a soloist and chamber musician.
In 2022, she performed the European premiere of John Williams’ Viola Concerto with the Dohnányi Budafok Orchestra under the direction of Gábor Hollerung. The premiere took place at the Müpa Concert Hall in Budapest.Kinga has extensive musical and stage experience, reflected in her successes in numerous national and international competitions, including first place in the Bach Solo Competition in 2020 and the Karl Doktor Prize in the Lionel Tertis Competition in 2019. In 2024, she was recognized for her artistic achievements by the region of Błędów, Poland.She is dedicated to the discovery and promotion of little-known musical compositions. In 2023, she offered the Romanian premiere of Miklós Rózsa’s Viola Concerto with the Târgu Mureş Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Marc Kissoczy. Another of her interests is to highlight the viola as a solo instrument, especially through the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2024, she performed the Swiss premiere of Zwei Szenen by Elena Mendoza, directed by Mariano Chiacchiarini and accompanied by the Ensemble Arc-en-Ciel.
Kinga is a proud Varsovian. She completed her schooling in Poland with a diploma from the Zenon Brzewski School of Music in Warsaw, where she studied with the legendary Polish violist Stefan Kamasa. She continued her training abroad, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 2021 from the Royal College of Music in London in the class of Nathan Braude. In 2023, she obtained her master’s degree in Solo Performance, and in 2025 she completed a second master’s degree in Orchestral Performance at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, studying viola with Lawrence Power and violin with Sergey Malov. During the 2023/24 concert season, she participated in the orchestral academy of the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
Since September 2024, Kinga has been part of the faculty of the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid as an assistant in Lawrence Power’s viola class.
Kinga has received multiple scholarships for her artistic achievements, including from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Bruno Schuler Stiftung, the Lyra Stiftung, among others. During her training, she has participated in prestigious viola masterclasses, such as IMS Prussia Cove, Verbier Festival Academy and Gstaad Music Festival Academy. She has had the privilege of learning from renowned violists such as Tabea Zimmermann, Nobuko Imai and Maxim Rysanov, among others.
Her musical career has been enriched by collaborations with some of the most renowned musicians of our time, including Viktoria Mullova, Gidon Kremer and Steven Isserlis. She has performed on stages in prestigious concert halls such as the KKL in Lucerne, the Royal Festival Hall in London and the Tonhalle in Zurich. She has also participated in highly renowned music festivals such as Krzyżowa Music, West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival, Encuentro of Santander, Rome Chamber Music Festival, among others.
Chamber music occupies a special place in Kinga’s musical career. From 2020 to 2023, she was a member of the award-winning Brompton Quartet. Together they debuted at the renowned Wigmore Hall in London. Kinga has also worked with the Collegium Orchestra under the direction of Lawrence Power, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Julian Rachlin, and the LGT Young Soloists under Alexander Gilman. In 2016, she co-founded the Polish ensemble Kameralna N – Harmonia, and is currently a founding member of the Veress Trio.
Kinga is deeply committed to the development of the repertoire for solo viola and the premiere of new works of chamber music. In 2022, the Polish composer Anna Dobrucka (*1989) dedicated a work for solo viola to her entitled L’etica dell’ambiguità, which Kinga premiered that same year in Zurich. Kinga encourages other contemporary composers to write and arrange works for viola.
The violist has recorded several albums of contemporary chamber music. Her recording of Noah Max’s string trio Sojourn is on the album Songs of Loneliness. In 2024, together with the UNLTD collective, she recorded a new album with music by Gabriel Prokofiev. She is currently working on her first CD as a soloist, which will include 20th century Polish music, with some of her own arrangements.
From the academic year 2025-2026, she will be an adjunct professor of the BBVA Foundation Viola Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.
