Miguel da Silva won first prize in both chamber music and viola. He also obtained first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Paris. His passion for the string quartet led him to found the Ysaÿe Quartet with three of his friends. After winning first prizes in Evian, the members of the Ysaÿe Quartet soon began an international career that took them around the world, from Japan to the United States. This brilliant 30-year career concluded in January 2014, after a major concert cycle. Miguel da Silva’s activity both as a soloist and with his quartet has led him to perform in most of the major concert halls in Europe and he has toured in Belgium, the United States, Japan, and Italy. He has performed as a soloist with the best orchestras, and, as a highly sought-after chamber musician, his collaborators have included Michel Portal, Augustin Dumay, Henri Demarquette, Gary Hoffmann, and Emmanuel Pahud, among others. A member of ECMA and Artistic Director of Villecroze Musical Academy, Miguel da Silva is a professor in Geneva and Paris, and is a professor at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.
