Péter Fried is a Hungarian opera singer known as the principal soloist of the Hungarian State Opera. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Liszt-Prize and the Bartók-Award.
He has enjoyed success in his most important roles from the United States to Japan, for example: Sarastro, Ramfis, Colline, Gremin, Seneca, Rocco, Basilio, Don Alfonso, Philippo II, Guardian, Banquo, Landgrave (Tannhäuser), King Henry (Lohengrin), Arkel, and Bluebeard. Fried was invited by Péter Eötvös to perform in his opera Three Sisters at the Opéra National de Lyon, at the Wiener Festwochen, in Cologne (recorded by WDR), as well as in Paris, and at the Santa Cecilia Hall in Rome, broadcast by RAI.
Fried triumphed with his important roles at BOZAR, Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Hall, BBC PROMS, broadcast by BBC TV and by Radio Benelux, under the direction of Pierre Boulez. For ten years, he had an exclusive contract with Boulez Management. He was often invited to the most famous stages and festivals in Paris, London, Rome, Brussels, Washington, Baltimore, Helsinki, Oslo, Nagoya and Tokyo.
Pierre Boulez invited Péter Fried to Paris for the main role of Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” at the Theatre du Châtelet. This performance has earned the title of “best concert of the year” and was recorded by Radio France. Fried has performed the role of “Bluebeard” on more than 100 occasions around the world. One of his performances, directed by Péter Eötvös and recorded in Stuttgart, was nominated for a Grammy Award. He has given outstanding performances in the United States, televised by NBC, CBS, and in Turin, recorded by RAI. Péter Fried has been invited by world-renowned conductors such as Sir. Yehudi Menuhin, Philippe Jordan, Rico Saccani, Jury Simonov, K. I. Kobayashi, Laurant Pelly and Robert Lapage. Since 2014, Péter Fried has been a professor in the singing department of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.
