Ethnomusicologist, pedagogue, and composer Polo Vallejo, Doctor of Musicology, is also a member of the Laboratoire de Musicologie Comparée et Anthropologie de la Musique at the University of Montreal and an advisor to the Carl Orff Foundation in Diessen (Munich).

An international reference in the field of pedagogy and experimental musicology, Professor Vallejo has been working in Africa since 1987, where he conducted a study on the musical systematics of the Wagogo of Tanzania.

He is currently conducting two experimental investigations: one on secular and religious vocal polyphonies in Georgia and another on children’s repertoires in the Kedougou region, Senegal. He is also finalizing a publication on various field notebooks written in Nzali (Tanzania) with black and white photographs by Carmen Ballvé and drawings by the children of the Wagogo village.

Polo Vallejo is also the creator and presenter of didactic concerts, and he teaches international courses in musical training and research around the world. He has published several articles, books, educational materials, and the documentary “Africa the Beat”, which has been selected and awarded at major international film festivals.

Winner of the National Prize from the Ministry of Culture of Spain in the category of art books in the 2016 Edition, he has also been a professor at the Reina Sofía School of Music since the 2017-2018 academic year.
