Born in Granada (Spain) in 1957, he studied Piano with R. Solís, Composition with Román Alís and Antón García Abril, and Orchestra Conducting with Isidoro García Polo and Enrique García Asensio at the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music, where he obtained Honours in all courses and the End-of-Degree Prize in Piano. Simultaneously, he graduated in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid.
He has performed in concerts, both solo piano and in duet with prominent instrumental and vocal figures, throughout Spain, as well as in Europe, America, and Asia.
He has performed as a soloist with the RTVE orchestras, symphony orchestras of Madrid, Seville, Balearic Islands, the Community of Madrid, City of Granada, Valladolid, and Asturias, under the baton of conductors such as Sergiu Comissiona, Salvador Brotóns, Pedro Halffter, Vjekoslav Šutej, Sabas Calvillo, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Luis Remartínez, and José de Udaeta, among others.
He has premiered the concertos for piano and orchestra written for him by Valentín Ruiz, Rafael Cavestany, and Fernando Aguirre.
He has recorded four albums with Spanish music for saxophone and piano. He has also recorded a CD with sonatas for solo piano and for clarinet and piano by Robert Stevenson.
He has conducted the RTVE Orchestra, Community of Madrid Orchestra, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Ópera Cómica de Madrid, Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra, Madrid Chamber Soloists, Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra and Choir, Gaudeamus Orchestra, and Divertimento Group, among others.
Currently, he is the principal conductor of the SIC Chamber Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Group of the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music (R.C.S.M.M.).
He has composed opera, symphonic, and chamber music, and his works have been premiered by prestigious orchestras and groups. His catalogue currently consists of seventy works. He has also composed the soundtrack for the latest films by director Mario Camus. The Areteia Quartet has released a monographic CD with his music for the Verso label.
Since 1979, he has been a professor at the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music and, since its foundation in 1991, Professor of Applied Harmony at the Reina Sofía School of Music.
