She is considered one of the most celebrated artists on the music scene. She has performed as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Seoul Philharmonic.
She has been an artist in residence in Weimar, Luxembourg, Hamburg, with the Bamberg Symphony and at the Museums-Gesellschaft in Frankfurt, and is currently an artist in residence with the Ensemble Resonanz.
She is a member of the Acanto Quartet chamber group. They have recorded numerous albums with the Harmonia Mundi record label. She has been an inspiration for contemporary authors to compose music for viola, thus expanding the traditional repertoire of this instrument. In fact, in 1994, she played in the successful premiere of György Ligeti’s “Sonata for Viola,” a work composed specifically for her.
In 2013, she released a commemorative album for the 50th anniversary of Hindemith’s death, which was a success, and included the composer’s viola works (Myrios Classics). She also received the Echo Klassik Award for Best Performer of the Year for her compilation of viola works by Bach and Reger. She has received awards such as the Frankfurter Musikpreis, Hessischer Kulturpreis, Rheingau Musikpreis, International Prize Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, the Paul-Hindemith-Prize in Hanau and, more recently, has been awarded as artist of the year at the ICMA International Classical Music Awards.She studied with Ulrich Koch at the Freiburg Conservatory and then with Sandor Vegh at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. After completing her education, she began to receive international awards, including first prize at the Geneva International Competition in 1982 and in 1984 in Budapest.
She has been a professor at the Musikhochschules of Saarbrücken and Frankfurt. She is currently a professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin.
