Radio Clásica and the Reina Sofía School of Music Present a Special Edition of the “21st Century Soloists” Cycle

Throughout the month of May, the cycle “21st Century Soloists returns to the radio waves of Radio Clásica (Radio Nacional de España) with a special format, adapted to the current circumstances. Although the health crisis caused by COVID-19 prevents live concerts from being held, every Saturday at 12:00 noon, the public will be able to enjoy through the program “Los Conciertos de Radio Clásica” with the broadcast of a selection of the best performances of recent years from a cycle that celebrates its 28th edition in 2020.

The cycle opens on May 2 with a chamber music concert, in which the Polish string quartet ‘Meccore’ performs works by Debussy, Ligeti and Grieg.

In its second session, on May 9, the cycle will feature a violin recital with characteristic works from the repertoire, ranging from the Baroque period to the first half of the 20th century, by soloist Eva Rabchevska, accompanied on piano by Alina Artemyeva.

A week later, on May 16, the program will be very evocative, exploring all the registers and timbres of the flute, with performers Gala Kossakowski and Vinicius Lira, accompanied by Luis Arias on piano and Ferran Arbona on clarinet. In this concert, premiered to the public Tres miniaturas para flauta y piano op. 11 by the young composer and violinist, former student of the Reina Sofía School, Pablo Díaz.

In its fourth session, on May 23, it will be the turn of the Asturian pianist Martín García with a program that combines different genres and styles that will delight the listener with works by Bach, Schubert, Debussy, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Liszt.

And as a culmination, “21st Century Soloists” will feature the retransmission of the concert with the two great chamber octets by Franz Schubert and Jörg Widmann, performed by the Wanderer and Widmann groups.
