- The mayor and the president of the Foundation have signed the collaboration agreement in Madrid, which includes two programs: the Santander International Piano Competition and the Music and Academy Encounter.
- Both institutions also collaborate in the organization of the ‘Summer Camp Music and Fun’, which is aimed at children from 8 to 14 years old who play an instrument and want to immerse themselves in a musical and artistic environment, while enjoying leisure activities and sports.
The Santander City Council and the Albéniz Foundation have signed a new collaboration agreement to promote pedagogical and musical programs in the city.
The signing of the agreement, which took place in Madrid, was signed by the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual, and the president of the Foundation, Paloma O’Shea, and extends to two programs: the Santander International Piano Competition and the Music and Academy Encounter.
After the signing ceremony, the mayoress highlighted the importance of the Albéniz Foundation’s activity for the city and assured that summer in the capital of Cantabria cannot be conceived without the development of these concerts.
“It is a luxury and a pride to have the experience of the Albéniz Foundation because its recitals transport us to other times, make us vibrate and exalt our senses, thanks to their level and quality,” she stressed.
Likewise, she has appealed to the escape route that culture represents in these times of pandemic, since “it brings us balance, humanity, sensitivity and gives us points of union and identity.”
For her part, Paloma O’Shea has expressed her “admiration and gratitude to the mayoress of Santander for everything she does in favor of culture and artistic education, which are essential for the progress of our city. The renewal for another four years of the agreement with the City Council is excellent news because, in a project such as that of the Albéniz Foundation in Santander, long-term collaborations are what give stability and have a profound effect on the training of young people and the promotion of culture. The City Council’s position has always been exemplary in its support for the Foundation and we are delighted to offer Santander the best we have: our young people and our music. This year, in addition, we are expanding our activity by bringing the Summer Camp Music and Fun to Santander for the first time.”
The City Council and the Albéniz Foundation have been collaborating in promoting these pedagogical and musical programs in the city since 1990.
The next edition of the Santander International Piano Competition will take place from July 25 to August 5, 2022 with a double celebration: its 50th anniversary (the first took place in 1972) and its twentieth edition.
For its part, the Music and Academy Encounter will be held this year from July 2 to 29 and celebrates its 20th anniversary. This year it returns to its usual face-to-face format after the break forced by covid-19 last year.
Both institutions also collaborate in the organization of the ‘Summer Camp Música y Diversión’, which will be held from July 5 to 18, and which is aimed at children from 8 to 14 years old who play a stringed instrument or piano and want to immerse themselves in a musical and artistic environment, while enjoying leisure activities and sports.
Thus, the program includes instrument and chamber music classes at the Ataúlfo Argenta Professional Conservatory, and choir, sports and languages at the Ruth Beitia sports complex. In addition, cultural visits and surfing lessons will be held during the weekend.
There are two types of Campus: the complete one with which the students stay overnight in the Residence of the Ruth Beitia Municipal Sports Complex; and the day one so that the students enter the Ataúlfo Argenta Professional Music Conservatory at 10:00 a.m. and end their day at the Ruth Beitia Municipal Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.
The Santander City Council offers children registered in the city the financial aid ‘Becas Summer Camp Ataúlfo Argenta’.
With this program focused on having a cultural immersion that includes music, sports and cultural activities, the student will be able to perfect and develop their musical skills with great teachers, with a unique teaching method and model, and in an exceptional environment.
