Alejandro Viana was born in Madrid in 1996. He began his cello studies at the age of 7. In 2013, he won the Special Degree Prize at the Padre Antonio Soler Conservatory in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. He studied with Victoria Rodríguez and María de Macedo, and continued his studies in Barcelona with Lluís Claret. He is currently studying at the Reina Sofía School of Music with Ivan Monighetti, and previously also with Natalia Shakhoskaya. He has received masterclasses from professors such as Raphael Pidoux, Cristophe Coin, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Wolfang Boetcher, Amit Peled, Wolfang E. Schmidt, Claudio Bohórquez, Daniel Grosgurin, Stephan Forck, Alexander Rudin, Gary Hoffman, Jens-Peter Maintz, Menahem Presler, Gidon Kremer, Frans Helmerson and Truls Mork. He has participated in IMS Prussia Cove, Rutesheim Festival, Kronberg Masterclasses and Santander Festival, playing with Masters such as Zakhar Bron, Ivan Monighetti, Nobuko Imai and Krysztof Penderecki. He has also played Previn’s Nonet with Anne-Sophie Mutter. At the School, he has been awarded the prize for Most Outstanding Student five times. Since 2018 he has been part of the Classe dExcellence at the Fondation Louis Vuitton with Gautier Capuçon
He has received first prizes in several competitions such as the Liezen International Cello Competition in Austria, the Jaime Dobato Benavente in Alcañiz, Teruel, the Antonio Janigro in Porec, Croatia, Manhattan Competition, Soncello and the Karl Davidoff in Kuldiga, Latvia. He has performed as a soloist with the Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, IUVENTAS Orchestra, Camerata Viesgo, Orchestra of the Paris Conservatory under the direction of Gautier Capuçon, and Freixenet Symphony Orchestra with Plácido Domingo, and also with Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
