Madrid, June 7, 2022.- In an exceptional environment in the city of Madrid, El Retiro Park, and more specifically, in its Music Pavilion, the rhythms and nuances of live music will sound again. The Endesa Foundation and the Reina Sofía School of Music, with the collaboration of the Madrid City Council, will celebrate the ‘Aires Tropicales’ concert next Saturday the 11th at 12:00 noon, a free and open-air concert for all audiences where the classic will merge with the popular, the Latin with jazz and with African rhythms.
‘Aires Tropicales’ will be performed by the wind quintet Globo Ensemble, created at the Reina Sofía School of Music, together with the scriptwriter-presenter of didactic concerts, Paco Torrent.
This work, composed by the Cuban Paquito D’Rivera, offers a journey in seven movements through different rhythms of Caribbean music: it brings us closer to the Cuban son and habanera, moves us to the beat of a Venezuelan waltz or transmits the sparkling pulse of bebop. In addition, it is conceived with a great pedagogical sense, since the different movements function individually as a broad sample of timbres with which to introduce the public to the five usual instruments of the wind quintet -flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon- and other less frequent ones such as the piccolo, the flute in G and the English horn.
‘Aires Tropicales’ is a work full of energy, with a festive atmosphere, and this makes it an ideal piece to connect with the public of any age who will enjoy all the sound colors of the wind instruments that blend with those of nature itself.
In order to offer an enriched experience to the family audience, the ‘Workshop of the Five Winds’ will also be given, free of charge and prior to the concert, at 11:00 a.m. The activity is aimed at children and will take place in El Retiro Park itself. It consists of a musical journey that allows the youngest children to get closer to music and its instruments, generate a dialogue with the children, through playful messages and participatory activities, and prepare them for active listening to the subsequent concert. To participate, those interested must make a prior reservation here.
