Madrid, January 22, 2025.- The cultural activities of the Real Casino de Madrid have a new collaborator this year, the Reina Sofía School.
Julia Sánchez Abeal, CEO of the Reina Sofía School of Music, and Fernando Eguidazu Palacios, President of the Real Casino de Madrid, signed a collaboration agreement this morning whereby the cultural and recreational society will host a concert series in its facilities produced by the international benchmark center for the education of young musicians.
The members of the Real Casino will be able to enjoy the music of the young artists of the Reina Sofía School. From next Thursday, January 30, until the month of May, five unique concerts will be held in the magnificent setting of the Salón Príncipe, where the Afternoon Concerts are held monthly.
The series will begin with a flute recital at 7:00 p.m. on January 30. The American Matthew Origel, together with the Spaniard Marta Chelet, will perform works by Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, Godard, Widor, Enescu and Jolivet accompanied on the piano by the pianist professor Luis Arias.
The second concert, on Thursday, February 27, will be the turn of the Arriaga Quartet of Banco de España. Created at the Reina Sofía School of Music in 1995, this quartet has studied with Antonello Farulli, Alasdair Tait and Márta Gulyás, among other professors. Its current formation receives classes under the tutelage of Heime Müller, professor of the String Quartet Department. In 2010, it received the Mention of Most Outstanding Chamber Group of the School, in the category of groups with piano, from the hands of Her Majesty Queen Doña Sofía. Likewise, it has received the same Mention, in the category of string quartets, in 2024. In the current academic year 2024-2025, it is made up of Irene Herrero and Gustavo Gil (violins), Adriana Julio (viola) and Álvaro Lozano (cello). All of them will perform works by Kreisler and Shostakovich at 7:00 p.m.
Following the trail of Thursdays, it will be on March 20 at 7:00 p.m., when the third session brings to the Salón Príncipe of the Real Casino de Madrid the performance of the Amy Beach Trio, a group with piano, created in 2024, which receives classes from Márta Gulyás, Professor of the Department of Groups with piano. Its three young members are the violinist Cecilia Novella (Valencia, Spain, 2005), the cellist Friederike Herold (Pirna, Germany, 2005) and the pianist Evelina Medvedko (Novosibirsk, Russia, 2004). Their repertoire will feature works by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich.
Already in May, the last two appointments. On Thursday the 22nd, two of the students of the “Alfredo Krauss” Fundación Ramón Areces Chair of Singing, the Colombian soprano Marlín González, and the Venezuelan tenor Pedro Nieves, will offer a singing recital with works by Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Gounod, Puccini, Sorozábal, Guerrero, Torroba, Roig and Penella.
And as a culmination, on Thursday, May 29, Michael Davidman, American pianist, student of the Piano Chair Fundación Banco Santander with Professor Stanislav Ioudenitch, who has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Monterey Symphony and the West Point Band, will offer a solo recital.
