The School and Oviedo Filarmonía Sign an Agreement to Promote Young Talent in Orchestral Conducting

Madrid, January 29, 2025.- The Reina Sofía School of Music and Oviedo Filarmonía have signed a collaboration agreement this Wednesday that will allow students of the “Zubin Mehta” Orchestral Conducting Chair to continue advancing in their training with a prestigious professional orchestra.

The agreement was signed by Julia Sánchez Abeal, CEO of the School, and María Riera, general director of Oviedo Filarmonía. The principal conductor of the orchestra, Lucas Macías, and the dean, Òscar Colomina, and the artistic director of the School, Juan A. Mendoza V., also attended the event.

Thanks to this collaboration, the conducting students, led by maestro Nicolás Pasquet, will have the opportunity to rehearse with Oviedo Filarmonía in February 2026 and culminate the work with a concert at the Teatro Filarmónica in Oviedo. These practical experiences are key in the preparation of young conductors, who find in the Reina Sofía School a space to develop at the highest level.

Oviedo Filarmonía thus joins other national and international orchestras and institutions that collaborate with the School in its objective of training and supporting future classical music professionals. This agreement also reinforces the School’s commitment to offer its students real experiences that prepare them for their professional career and bring their talent closer to the public.

With initiatives like this, the Reina Sofía School continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark in musical education, connecting its students with top-level orchestras and creating opportunities for the development of young talent.

The School’s Orchestral Conducting Chair, which has the support of Aline Foriel-Destezet, began its journey in the current academic year, 2024-2025, offering a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Orchestral Conducting Studies. The presence of students and faculty in these practices is possible thanks to the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation.
