The School Hosts the Residency of the Young Talents of Ensemble Connect

  • Ensemble Connect is a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, that prepares young classical music professionals for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
  • As part of its programming for this academic year, a residency at the Reina Sofía School of Music is included, where they will share experiences with the School’s students. From November 1 to 8, the Ensemble and the students will jointly participate in a concert at the Reina Sofía Museum, within the program of the National Center for Musical Diffusion (Monday 4); in social and community activities (Wednesday 6), and in artistic workshops and a colloquium focused on finding synergies between young musicians to enhance those skills that allow them to connect with audiences (Thursday 7).

Madrid, October 30, 2024.– The Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, created in 1991, is a world reference center in the training of young classical musicians. Throughout its more than 30 years of history, more than 950 musicians have passed through its classrooms, who today occupy prominent positions in orchestras, develop successful careers as soloists, and are teachers in the best music schools.

In addition, within its activities and social commitment, the first week of November they will host the residency of Ensemble Connect, a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, which prepares young classical music professionals for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

The residency, scheduled between November 1 and 8, will include various activities, which the Ensemble and the School’s students who are taking the Artistic Development subject will jointly develop:

  • Monday, November 4, 7:30 p.m. Auditorium 400 of the Reina Sofía National Art Museum in Madrid. Inaugural concert of the 20/21 Series of contemporary music of the National Center for Musical Diffusion (CNDM), with an interesting tour of contemporary American music with composers such as Missy Mazzoli.
  • Wednesday, November 6. As part of its social vocation, the Ensemble will offer various interactive concerts, designed to invite the public to explore and discover a piece or musical concept with auditory activities designed to deepen and enrich the concert experience. In the morning they will perform at the Casa San Cristóbal of the Montemadrid Foundation, for an intergenerational audience of senior citizens and ESO students from nearby institutes. In the afternoon they will perform for young people from 8 to 18 years old at DalaNota, a free and inclusive musico-social education program aimed at children and adolescents in vulnerable situations and at the SEK International School Ciudalcampo.
  • Thursday, November 7. In the morning, the Ensemble will work in artistic workshops on the iconic work “In C” by Terry Riley with students from the Reina Sofía School and the Royal Conservatory of Music of Atocha and will show the result of this work in the afternoon in the School Auditorium (6:30 p.m.), which will be followed by a colloquium among the young musicians under the title “What skills can we develop to connect with audiences?”. This event is open to the entire musical community, both artistic and educational, with the aim of creating synergies and jointly seeking answers to the challenges facing the sector.
