The Sony Auditorium in Madrid, with its 150 concerts and 23,000 annual spectators, in addition to its large international audience connected to live streaming broadcasts, is a cultural space of reference in the classical music scene of the Community of Madrid. Located in the central Plaza de Oriente, it has offered one of the most numerous and varied programs in musical offerings since its inauguration in October 2008.
To respond to the new demand for digital content, a thorough modernization of the Sony Auditorium’s infrastructure was necessary, thus providing it with the fundamental tools to improve its processes and equipment, and in this way digitize all the tasks that have to do with the production of a concert.
Project Objectives
The general objectives cited in the Explanatory Memorandum that motivated the realization of the project are:
- To promote sustainable and efficient management of artistic activity.
- To implement digital audio, lighting, video, and management/production systems that allow for centralized control and optimization of workflows.
- To improve the quality of artistic productions to enhance Madrid’s cultural offerings.
- To reduce the carbon footprint in the development of artistic activities.
Among the improvements made, the energy savings resulting from the replacement of 300 fluorescent lamps with 500 meters of LED strip stand out. In addition, cameras have been installed for recording and broadcasting concerts in 4k quality.
Furthermore, improvements have also been made in the management of artistic events thanks to the incorporation of technologies such as Salesforce or PatronBase, which allow for a better experience for users who enjoy the activities programmed at the School.
The renovation of the space has been made possible thanks to the funding provided by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid charged to the “Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (financed by the European Union) NextGeneration EU”.
