Madrid, April 22, 2024.- The Reina Sofía School of Music presents, for the thirteenth year, the concerts of the Sinfonietta, its orchestral ensemble focused on contemporary music, directed on this occasion by the Hungarian composer and conductor Zsolt Nagy.
On Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., the Sinfonietta will offer a concert in the Auditorio 400 of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, co-produced by the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) within its “Series 20/21” cycle, and thanks to the support of the Fundación Cisneros – Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros.
Zsolt Nagy will once again conduct the Reina Sofía School’s Sinfonietta, along with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s double bassist, Matthew McDonald, who will be in charge of the solo part of the work premiering in Spain, Aurora, written by Peter Eötvös for double bass, accordion, and string ensemble.
Accompanying this piece will be the Concertino in atonal language by Robert Gerhard, the Corale (his Sequenza VIII) for solo violin by Luciano Berio, with the young violinist Sara Zeneli as soloist, and a world premiere by professor, composer, and conductor Fabián Panisello (Written in blue for trumpet and ensemble), whose soloist will be the trumpeter Manuel Blanco (National Orchestra of Spain).
The Reina Sofía School of Music dedicates this concert to the memory of maestro Péter Eötvös, advisor to the School’s Sinfonietta since its creation.
Didactic Concert “Listening to and Understanding Today’s Music”
On Sunday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m., the Sinfonietta will offer, in collaboration with the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Madrid City Council, at the Eduardo Úrculo Cultural Center (Tetuán), a didactic concert that aims to bring contemporary music closer to all audiences and help them understand it.
Polo Vallejo, composer and pedagogue, will present the concert and guide the audience, in conversation with the composer Fabián Panisello, the performers, and the conductor, to listen to, understand, and enjoy the music.
The Sinfonietta will be conducted by maestro Zsolt Nagy, and the program includes two works. Written in Blue, by Fabián Panisello, with trumpeter Manuel Blanco (National Orchestra of Spain) as soloist, and Aurora, composed by Péter Eötvös, with double bassist Matthew McDonald (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) as soloist.
