Master Classes
The VI Encounter of Music and Academy, in Santander, Cantabria 2006, will take place between 1 and 27 July. As in previous years, and as foreshadowed in the title of the event itself, the Encounter closely combines academic and artistic activity. The Academy will be held at the Jesús de Monasterio Professional Conservatory of Music in Santander. Fifteen master musicians of international renown will reside here together with more than eighty young musicians from all parts of the world.
This year’s master classes will include the flute, oboe, clarinet, fagot, horn, piano, voice, violin, viola and violoncello as instrumental and vocal areas of specialisation, with a very strong emphasis on group music. The work will concentrate on chamber music in general and string quartets in particular, and the orchestral activity will also be intense.This year’s Encounter will place special emphasis in Hungarian music inasmuch as the contribution of this country to European musical tradition has been outstanding throughout the course of the years.

Orchestra 2006
Desde el 2 de julio tuvieron lugar los ensayos de la Orquesta Sinfónica que se formó con ocasión del Encuentro y que estuvo constituida por solistas seleccionados de entre los jóvenes músicos participantes en el festival. La Orquesta Sinfónica ofrececió este concierto bajo la dirección del maestro Péter Csaba y con la participación del clarinetista Paul Meyer como solista. El concierto inaugural tuvo lugar el 7 de julio a las 21:00h en la Sala Argenta del Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria. Al día siguiente se interpretó de nuevo este concierto en la Iglesia de San Francisco de Laredo. Además, Péter Csaba dirigió el día 21 de julio en la Sala Argenta del Palacio de Festivales a la Orquesta de Cámara del Encuentro.
