Due to limitations and restrictions forced by the fight against Covid-19, the XX edition of the Santander Encounter of Music and Academy didn't take place in 2020, but live music was heard across Cantabria due to the joint support of the activities of the Fundación Albeniz by the Government of Cantabria, the Santander City Council and various private entities.
The Fundación Albéniz, staying true to its mission of bringing music closer to society and supporting culture and young artists, organised in the summer of 2020 a special programme under the name of "Reencounter". On one hand, a series of 20 live concerts in Cantabria by students and alumni of the Reina Sofía School of Music, joined by Cantabrian musicians, that tooks place in different spaces of Santander and other towns of the region. On the other hand, two supplementary online activities, organised by Péter Csaba, Artistic Director of the Encounter of Santander. Selected young musicians from the top European music schools of Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, Budapest, Cologne, London, Madrid, Waterloo and Zürich recieved online masterclasses from renowned professors: Felix Renggli, flute; Dominik Wollenweber, oboe; Francçois Benda, clarinet; Radovan Vlatkovic, French horn; Zakhar Bron, violin; Nobuko Imai, viola; Jens Peter Maintz, cello; Claudio Martínez Mehner, piano and John Graham-Hall, voice. Furthermore, these young artists were featured in a series of online concerts on the Reina Sofía School of Music's YouTube channel.
