Programme

From July 1 to 27, the 19th edition of the Santander Encounter of Music and Academia turns the capital and a score of Cantabrian locations into a setting where extraordinary talents meet.

The more than 60 students selected will coexist with a faculty made up of top-flight international figures: Zakhar Bron and Latica Honda-Rosenberg (violin), Ivan Monighetti (cello), Hansjörg Schellenberger (oboe), Pascal Moraguès (clarinet), Dag Jensen (bassoon), Richard Watkins (horn), Claudio Martínez Mehner (piano) and Péter Csaba (chamber orchestra), among others. For the first time, this year's Encounter sees the addition of Miguel da Silva (viola), Andrea Lieberknecht (flute) and Iris Vermillion (singing).

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to work on the music of Péter Eötvös with the master musician himself, who has been invited as a resident composer for this edition of the Encounter. The inaugural concert, directed by maestro Eötvös, will take place on July 7 in the Argenta Hall at the Palacio de Festivales, with the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra and the violinist Giovanni Guzzo as guest soloist, who will interpret a piece from Eötvös, Petrushka by Stravinsky and Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.

The artistic offering is completed with forty-five concerts programmed by Péter Csaba, the artistic director of an Encounter whose scenarios span all of Cantabria, from the Argenta and Pereda Halls at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria to the Palacio de la Magdalena-Universidad Menéndez Pelayo, the church of Santa Lucia and 21 other locations throughout the region.
