Marco Testori began his piano studies at a very young age, to which he would later add organ and cello. In 1991 he graduated in organ and organ composition from the G. Verdi Conservatory of Milan and then in cello in 1993. After attending some courses with J. Goritzky, M. Flaksmann and E. Bronzi, he began to study early music in depth at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis with C. Coin.
He began to collaborate with various groups such as I Barocchisti, Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Complesso Barocco, Accordone, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Conjunto Dolce e Tempesta, Il Cardellino, Conjunto Musica Alchemica, Orquestra de Cámara de Mantua, La Divina Armonia, Il Suonar Parlante, Ensemble 1700, L’Accademia Gioiosa, with whom he recorded for record labels such as Decca, Opus 111, Naxos, Sony, Amadeus and Fuga Libera.
Between 1994 and 2004 he was the first cellist of the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, with whom he participated in some of the most important international festivals (Musica e Poesia a San Maurizio – Milan; Styriarte Festival – Graz; Pfingsten – Salzburg; Osterklang – Vienna; Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival; Rheingau Festival; Settimane Musicali Internazionali – Lucerne; Festival de Musique – Montreux-Vevey) and has performed in some of the most famous halls in the world (Teatro San Carlo – Naples; Concertgebouw – Amsterdam; Wigmore Hall – London; Musikverein – Vienna; Konzerthaus – Vienna; Théâtre des Champs-Élysées – Paris; Tonhalle – Zurich; Alte Oper – Frankfurt; Staatsoper unter den Linden – Berlin; Auditorio Nacional – Madrid; Auditorium P. Casals – Tokyo; Teatro Colón – Buenos Aires; Carnegie Hall – New York; Sydney Opera House). In addition, he has recorded for Teldec with Il Giardino Armonico.
He is the first cellist of the group Atalanta Fugiens; with whom he has recorded for Sony.
He has also recorded cello concertos and strings by Nicola Fiorenza together with the group Dolce & Tempesta.
On the other hand, he has recorded concertos and sonatas by the virtuoso Carlo Graziani and a CD on the cello sonatas of Mannheim for Passacaille.
His latest CD (Brilliant Classic) together with the fortepianist Costantino Mastroprimiano, includes sonatas by Moscheles, Ries and Hummel, as well as the complete sonatas and variations by Beethoven.
The female choir Convivia Música has won numerous national competitions under his direction.
Some of his compositions and works, expressly intended for this choir, have received special recognition in choir competitions.
He teaches master classes and summer courses on baroque cello and classical chamber music.
Since 2013 he has been a professor of baroque cello at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg and, since the 2021-2022 academic year, a continuous adjunct professor of the Société Générale Historical Interpretation Program at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.
