Every year, in July, the city of Santander and Cantabria, in the north of Spain, host the Santander Music and Academy Encounter.
This project, promoted by the Government of Cantabria and the Albéniz Foundation, organized by the Reina Sofía School of Music with the collaboration of the Santander City Council and various sponsors, and under the artistic direction of Márta Gulyás and Luis Fernando Pérez, brings together great musicians and international teachers with a select group of young talents from all over the world selected through auditions.
With all travel, accommodation, and meal expenses covered by the organization, students enjoy master classes with their teachers and an intense schedule of rehearsals and concerts. The city of Santander and various locations in Cantabria become the stage for approximately fifty concerts in which students and great masters share their music. A musical celebration, a world-class academy, and a unique experience for its students.
The XXV edition of the Encounter will be held from July 1 to 23, 2026.
The Community of Cantabria is located in northern Spain, in the central area of the Cantabrian coast. The exuberant landscape richness of its territory is evident in its more than 60 km of beaches, in its peaks of the Picos de Europa, with altitudes above 2600 meters, and in the numerous rivers that run from south to north and that divide green valleys, creating natural spaces of great ecological value that make it a unique region.
History and art embrace in Cantabria, thanks to medieval towns such as Santillana del Mar and cultural treasures such as the Altamira caves, a universal artistic expression of prehistoric man, which also has a replica open to the public in the Museum of the same town.
Santander, capital of Cantabria, is a modern and cosmopolitan city that sits on a bay of spectacular beauty, facing south. Numerous visitors travel there to enjoy its charming landscapes, explore its many green spaces or, during the summer, relax on one of its eleven urban beaches, undoubtedly an offer as exceptional as it is irresistible within the Spanish tourist environment. Leisure, fun, and culture coexist in perfect harmony in Santander.
