Carlos García Sanz, principal clarinetist of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra since 2000, began his music studies at the Alcañiz Conservatory of Music. He continued his undergraduate studies at the Zaragoza Superior Conservatory of Music, where he studied clarinet with Emilio Ferrando. He obtained advanced diplomas in Clarinet and Chamber Music in 2000 from the Conservatoire Superieur National de Musique et Dance de Paris, where his clarinet professors included Michel Arrignon and Alain Damiens. In both specialties, he obtained the qualification of “Premier prix”. Throughout his career as a clarinetist, he has collaborated with various professional orchestras such as the C.O.E (Chamber Orchestra of Europe), the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brittany Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of the Loire Region, the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, etc., and also with the IRCAM (L’Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) in Paris. He has also collaborated with his orchestra as a “Soloist,” performing works such as Debussy’s “Premiere Raphsodie” for clarinet and orchestra, Claudio Prieto’s “Concierto Latino,” Berstein’s “Prelude, fugue and riffs,” Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 opus 120 (arrangement by L. Berio), and also the premiere at the “Musikaste” festival of the version for clarinet and orchestra of Isabel Urrutia’s work “Haizearen naiak.” In the field of teaching, Carlos García Sanz has been Professor of Clarinet and Clarinet Orchestral Repertoire at the Aragón Superior Conservatory of Music and Professor of Clarinet at the Leioa Professional Conservatory in Vizcaya. Since the 2022-2023 academic year, he has been an associate professor of the Clarinet Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music.
