Szabolcs Zempléni, born in 1981, won first prize and a special prize at the Concertino Praga competition at just 17 years old. This achievement was followed by first place at the Békés International Horn Competition and second place at the Markneukirchen International Horn Competition in 2000, and first place at the Brno International Horn Competition in 2001. Szabolcs Zempléni received first prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2005.
Since then, he has performed as a soloist in countries such as the Czech Republic, Japan, China, Thailand, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United States with conductors such as Ivan Fischer, Yakov Kreizberg, Jonathan Nott, Daniel Raiskin, and Michael Sanderling. He has debuted in some of the best concert halls, such as the Auditorium in Rome, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Gasteig Philharmonic Hall in Munich, and Bartók Hall in Budapest. He has also shared the stage with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Salzburg Camerata, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra of Reutlingen. Some of the musicians with whom he has collaborated in chamber music are András Keller, Péter Nagy, Dénes Várjon, Christoph Eschenbach, Elena Bashkirova, Christian Zacharias, Mie Matsuoka, and Frank Peter Zimmermann.
Szabolcs Zempléni is a guest professor at Trinity Music College in London and at Tokyo Music College in Japan. Since 2010, he has been a professor at the Trossingen University of Music. In 2018, he accepted a position as professor of horn at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. In 2024, he joined the faculty of the Berlin University of the Arts.
His first CD, called “Colours of the French Horn”, was released in 2011.
