Lucas Macías Navarro studied at the Zurich Conservatory (Switzerland) under the tutelage of Thomas Indermühle. As a member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, he continued his training at the Freiburg Conservatory (Germany) between 1997 and 2000, where he obtained the prestigious “Soloist Diploma” in Heinz Holliger’s class.Throughout his career, he has performed as a soloist in renowned international festivals and events, including the Berliner Festwochen, the Usedomer Festival, Young Artists in Concert in Davos (Switzerland), the Europäischen Musikmonat (Basel, Switzerland), the ARD Kammermusikfest 2003 (Munich), the Albert-Konzerten of Freiburg (Germany), the Schwetzinger Musikfestival 2004, the Roque d’Anthéron (2004) and the BBC Proms (London). In addition, he studied at the Karajan Akademie of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra during the years 2003 and 2004.Since March 2004, he has held the position of Principal Oboe in the Munich Chamber Orchestra (Germany), a position he has combined since July 2005 with the position of Principal Oboe in the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra (Switzerland). In December 2007, he was appointed Principal Oboe of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, under the direction of Mariss Jansons.
In 2014, Macías Navarro began his career as an orchestra conductor with a prominent debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, establishing himself as one of the most important oboists worldwide. In 2018, he was appointed principal conductor of the Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra. He made his debut at the Oviedo Opera House in October 2021 with The Magic Flute.In his career as a soloist, he has worked with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under the direction of figures such as Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa and Pierre Boulez, and has held the same position in other prominent ensembles, including the Camerata Bern (Switzerland), the SWR Symphony Orchestra of Baden-Baden and Freiburg (Germany), the Stadtorchester Winterthur (Switzerland), the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (Hessischer Rundfunk), the Bochumer Symphonikern, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Christian Zacharias, the Budapest Festival Orchestra under the baton of Ivan Fischer, the Academia di Santa Cecilia (Italy) and the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. He has also toured as Principal Oboe with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and was invited by Claudio Abbado to join his new ensemble, the “Mozart Orchester”, as Principal Oboe.
In his role as conductor, he has worked with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Orchestre de Paris (where he was assistant conductor for two years, working closely with Daniel Harding), the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, the Het Gelders Orkest, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra and the Euskadiko Orkestra, among other prestigious ensembles.
In September 2020, he was appointed conductor of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada.
Throughout his career, Macías Navarro has received important awards, such as the First Prize in the National Competition for Young People (Granada), the Honorable Mention in the “Fernand Gillet Oboe Competition” (USA), the First Prize in the “II Concorso Internazionale per Oboe Giuseppe Tomassini” (Petritoli, Italy) and the First Prize and Mozart Prize in the Japan International Oboe Competition in 2006.
From the 2025-2026 academic year, he will be Professor of the Fundación Damm Oboe Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.
