SCHUMANN, Robert
Märchenbilder (Fairy Tale Pictures) for viola and piano op. 113
II. Lively
Hariolf Schlichtig, guest professor
Guillermo Gil García, student
Juan Barahona, accompanying pianist
The professor explains how to play a specific passage and suggests technical exercises on finger extensions to achieve it. The bow must be next to the string, without jumps occurring. Regarding the phrasing, it is necessary to construct the line.
The teacher and professor also work on the vibrato in the high notes and how to avoid making inappropriate accents, preventing them by changing certain arm gestures.
The student has to study dotted rhythms as if they were triplets. Articulation and rhythm in the left hand are also important. Regarding the position of the fingers, it is advisable to eliminate the tension of the fingers after each note instead of pushing them backwards.
