‘Music for a School’ is a commissioning program for composers promoted by Paloma O’Shea with the aim that the students and professors of the Reina Sofía School of Music feel the music of our time as their own.

On the occasion of the celebration of her seventieth birthday in 2006, Paloma O’Shea wanted to present the School with a series of commissions to leading Spanish and foreign composers, who were asked for music intended to be studied and premiered by the musicians of the School. The composers were given complete freedom in terms of instrumental staff and duration and were asked not to impose any limitations on the technical difficulty of the score. To mark her 80th birthday, Paloma O’Shea launched a second wave of commissions for the program.

The works are naturally inserted into the academic plan of the School, the International Institute of Chamber Music and the Santander Music and Academy Encounter, and their premieres are taking place throughout the artistic life of these institutions.
